Description

For us, Syrah is generally the best wine in the Reserve series at Seewinkelhof Salzl. It is not without reason that it is sold at a slightly higher price than the other varietal wines in this line. 2019 is once again an excellent vintage with rich substance and a high level of balance. The 2019 Syrah Reserve from the Salzl family spent twelve months in small 100% new oak barrels. A real luxury for a wine in this price category. It has a dark red colour with purple hues. Its bewitching aroma reminds of ripe black berries, herbs, vanilla, black olives, juniper and black cherries. The varied aromas make the wine very complex and captivating. On the long finish, the fine tannins and rich extract body are a pleasure to behold to complete the package. A superb and very charming red wine!

Falstaff magazine gives the 2019 Salzl Syrah 90-92/100 points and writes: “Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple highlights, delicate brightening at the edges. Juicy black cherries, hint of sweet spice, ripe prunes, candied orange peel. Juicy, hint of red berries, fresh cherries, well-integrated tannins, mineral, fruity finish, a lively dining companion.”

Black meat in all its forms, game, braised dishes and strong pasta dishes are ideal combinations with this particular red wine from Burgenland.
