Description

The Salzl Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve grows on sandy soil, in an Illmitz vineyard that is sensibly named Sandriegel. As a rule, the wine spends 12 months in 100% new barriques to develop its full splendour, a real luxury in this (price) class!

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Salzl is a bit more opulent than its predecessor, stylistically more reminiscent of the full 2015, with its juicy richness, very good extract and soft finish. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, black jihannis berries, blackberries and coconut can be found. As usual, this wine has an enchanting charm and an ageing potential of 10+ years, provided proper storage.

Peter Moser of Falstaff magazine rates the 2018 Caberner Sauvignon Reserve from Salzl at 91/100 points and writes, quote, “Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Fine cassis notes, a hint of cardamom, black plums, floral touch, inviting bouquet. Juicy, tight, some leafy tannin, herbal notes, fresh fruit, will benefit from bottle age.”
