Description

The Barbera d’Asti DOCG Le Gagie captivates with its intense, vibrant, and bright ruby-red color. The bouquet is rich and fascinating, with spicy notes mixed with delicate nuances of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. On the palate, the wine’s elegance shines through with a harmonious and fine taste, accompanied by a pleasant mouthfeel and a lasting aftertaste of small red fruits, finishing with an enveloping finish.

The vineyards of Le Gagie are located in the heart of the Asti region, an area renowned for producing Barbera d’Asti DOCG. The calcareous clay soils with a south-southeast exposure impart rich minerality and natural freshness to the grapes. The yield is 9 tons per hectare, ensuring an ideal concentration of aromas and flavors. The harvest is entirely manual, following local tradition.

During winemaking, fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature of 28°C. After 15-20 days, fermentation is complete, and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, adding softness and roundness to the wine. The wine is aged in 30 hl barrels for 12 months, followed by an additional 4 months in bottle to refine its sensory profile.

Food Pairing

This versatile wine pairs perfectly with traditional Piedmontese cuisine, including fresh pasta dishes such as Tajarin al ragù or Agnolotti del plin. It also goes wonderfully with Cacciatore chicken, roast duck, and grilled meats like veal or beef. It is an excellent match for semi-aged cheeses like Toma or Castelmagno.
